How I finally quit.

Submitted by nathan from Daggett County.

I started smoking when I was 15 years old. I never really could admit I was addicted unit I was about 18. I couldnt buy smokes and I could hardely ever find anybody to buy them for me, so I actually was looking in ash trays for old smokes and then smoke them. By the time I was old enough to smoke I was smoking up to 3 packs a day. I attempted to quit several times but I couldnt. I may have stopped for a couple of days or even a month, but always found myself smoking again. I got married in my early twenties and my wife hated the cigeretted. We lived on a top floor so I had to go all the way down stairs to smoke. When I had my first child my father told me I needed to quit. I had been told several times but it never really hit me like it did this time. I realized the tobacco was more powerful than I was and needed help from a power greater than myself. I went into my room, knelt down and prayed asking for help. After smoking three packs a day I was able to stop. The only way was to stop and not cut down because every smoke reiforced the habit. The prayer helped me, that instance. I have never been tempted again, I feel I could even find myself in a place where smokes are and coil from it, not even thinking about it. I suggest praying for help, eventually, maybe not that instance, but eventually you will be helped.
